Who can use the Info Point?
-
Anyone going on holiday who has any kind of disability or impairment, whether coming to Belgium or going abroad. As for those who contact us from another country and do not intend to travel to Belgium, we refer them to our colleagues in another country.
-
What information can be obtained from the Info Point?
-
In the first place, travellers with a disability or impairment need reliable information. Instead of simply trusting a logo in one or other tourist brochure, therefore, we use as many independent sources as possible, and we prefer objective data obtained by specialised research agencies. In addition, we use the subjective experiences of travellers who themselves have some kind of impairment.
Both types of information can be found on the website: references to the available databases and results of research by Belgian and foreign professional research agencies and the personal experiences of private holidaymakers.
-
Do you have a brochure or catalogue with everything that is available for disabled travellers?
-
The range of travel opportunities for people with an impairment has increased tremendously and is constantly evolving. A brochure or catalogue with "everything" in would not only be very difficult to use, but also any information it contained would be very quickly out of date. For this reason, the Accessible Travel Info Point no longer publishes a brochure, but we give as many tips as we can along with useful addresses via the Travel Info section of our website, so the most up-to-date information is only a mouse-click away. Of course, this section is just a selection.
-
I have an impairment. What points should I remember when it comes to organising my holiday?
-
On the title page of the Travel Info section users can consult some of the many tips we have collected from our sources.
-
I plan to go on holiday by plane. What do you think?
-
More and more airlines and airports around the world are providing facilities for disabled passengers. For example, if you travel from Belgium it is good to let the travel agent know right away that you have an impairment. If you need assistance, you will be asked to check in extra early. There are also special rules for the transport of certain aids and appliances and for groups of disabled persons. Zaventem National airport gives some basic guidelines on its website: www.brusselsairport.be/en/airportinfo/specialcare/reducedmobility.
More information can be found in the section Travel Info & Links/International and in the "Accessible transport" info package.
-
Is my blue parking badge for disabled people also valid abroad?
-
The European model (with passport photo) does indeed give you the right to park in a place reserved for disabled people throughout the European Union, and also in some countries outside of the Union N.B: This doesn’t mean that you can park anywhere for any length of time and/or without paying. You’ll find more information about the actual situation in different countries in the Travel Info section.
-
Does the Accessible Travel Info Point itself organise holidays?
-
The Info Point does not arrange any holidays itself. However, if you are looking for a package holiday, we can give you some addresses of tour operators.
-
I am pleased with my last holiday. Would you like to hear about it?
-
Of course! Just go to the Travel Experiences section. Lots of other holidaymakers have already given us some helpful tips. And every tip you give us will give other travellers good ideas. We are mindful of the need to respect your privacy. Although we always ask you for your full name and address for our internal administration, we mention only your first name on the website. Your personal data are never passed on without your explicit agreement.
-
I am not pleased with my last holiday. Can I lodge a complaint with you?
-
We are interested in any negative experiences you may have had and we take them into account in our recommendations. However, if you want an intermediary to help you lodge a complaint, it would be better to contact an association (for example a consumer association or an organisation for the disabled). Alternatively, (in Belgium) you can contact the Travel Dispute Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
-
I can't find any information on the website that meets my personal needs. Does this mean there's nothing for me there?
-
What one person calls accessible is often different from the next person, so there's always a chance you won't find the specific information you're looking for on the website. Of course, the range of accessible holiday destinations is much wider than what you find on our website. If you have any practical questions, feel free to ask. We will give your question personal attention.
-
I manage a tourist facility or I work for a tourist service, an event organiser, tourist site, transport service, etc. Can I recommend my services to you?
-
We welcome all information on accessible travel. In this context too, the principle applies that we will attach much more importance to a tip from the tourist sector if the accessibility is assessed objectively by a specialised research agency. Depending on the situation, a tip might be suitable for inclusion on several pages of our website or may be disseminated by the Accessible Travel Info Point by some other means.
-
I work in the tourism industry and believe that it is important that people with disabilities should feel welcome. Do you have any tips for me?
-
Of course a hospitable welcome is important, how would you feel if it were you? It makes the service really accessible and costs little or nothing. In cooperation with seasoned travellers with disabilities, we have compiled a few tips that can take away that initial apprehension.
You can download the brochure here (pdf format) or ask for a printout from the Accessible Travel Info Point.

The Accessible Travel Info Point also awards a prize, the Gulliver Award. How can I put forward a nomination?
-
The Gulliver Award is awarded to a Flemish initiative in the holiday and leisure sector that is innovative and might set a good example of high-quality, inclusive accessibility. Anyone can nominate an initiative for the award. Just fill in this form (Word).
