Ibiza
A brochure is now available to familiarise you with the accessible facilities at Ibiza (or Eivissa as the ‘locals’ call the island). Culture, transport, lodging, beaches, restaurants, sports facilities, public sanitary facilities,… In short, you can easily find your way with these two pages. The brochure is especially informative for persons with a motor disability, but also interesting for blind and visually impaired holidaymakers. Download the brochure here (PDF format). All information is available in Spanish (Castilian and Catalan), English and German.

Benvinguts a Catalunya (or welcome to Catalonia)

In 1992, in readiness for the Olympic Games (and in particular for the accompanying Paralympics), Barcelona and surrounding districts took a firm decision to make public amenities more accessible. Sixteen years on the tourist authorities of Catalonia have decided it's time for a thorough overhaul. A brochure and a website, www.turismeperatothom.com/en, now bring together all the facilities in the whole region: traffic, visitor attractions, accommodation, … All with a government guarantee. The information is targeted at people with reduced mobility or a visual disability and is available in Catalan, Spanish, Italian, French, German and English (with link to English version).

Barcelona
Wheelchair users who want to visit Barcelona can easily prepare their journey using a website like www.vienaeditorial.com/barcelonaaccesible/angles/index.htm. The buildings described are grouped by theme and area, but you can also search alphabetically using the index. Aside from a colourful description, you also get an idea of the extent of accessibility, with 1 to 3 wheelchair symbols. Info in Catalan, Spanish, French and English (link to English version).

A British wheelchair user who has been living in Barcelona for two years developed the website Accessible Barcelona (www.accessiblebarcelona.com). The site contains largely enough tips to make your mouth water.

Available in English, Spanish and Catalan.

Lleida
While Costa Blanca and Barcelona are perhaps the best-known Catalan tourist sites, the green hinterland is also worth a visit. The province of Lleida (Lerida) borders France and Andorra, and treats you to lively bits of culture and nature. And here the physically impaired traveller has not been overlooked. www.lleidatur.com contains various contact addresses and tips for an accessible journey, in Catalan, Basque, Spanish, French, English, German, Italian, Portuguese and Hebrew. Click on the flickering title in the left margin. Versions in Dutch and Russian were still being prepared at the time of our visit.
